The Jewish position in Lithuania has undergone a radical change for the better, Jewish community leaders indicated today in an interview with the J.T.A. They pointed out that the new regime, which was set up following Soviet occupation, is a guarantee that full social and national equality will be enforced.
The first changes in officialdom, the leaders said, indicate that the new regime is determined to pursue a non-discriminatory policy.
Jewish institutions are continuing to function normally. The position of refugees in Wilno has been particularly improved, the system of repressions instituted by the former regime having been discontinued.
Officials of the Joint Distribution Committee here announced that they were continuing relief operations for refugees as well as for needy sections of the local population although facing financial difficulties.
