All immigration, except that under the supervision of the Dominican Republic Settlement Association of New York, was discontinued today by the Dominican Government. The measure applies to Jews and non-Jews alike.
(The Dominican Congress on June 11 passed a bill barring all immigration except of persons intending to make the Republic their permanent home. The action came as a result of internal pressure from citizens objecting to the large number of “transient” refugees who had reached Ciudad Trujillo and were waiting there to procure entry into other North and South American countries.)
Leon Falk Jr., Pittsburgh industrialist and philanthropist, who is a member of the board of directors of the D.R.S.A., left for Miami by airplane this morning after a survey of refugee settlement here. He said the Sosua colonization project looked very promising.
