An appeal for discrimination in the internment of refugees was voiced in The Times today by Prof. Gilbert Murray, chairman of the League of Nations Union. “We must not become so blinded by the emotions of war,” Prof. Murray wrote, “as to be unable to distinguish between friends and enemies.”
Writing in the News-Chronicle, A.J. Cummings, hailed steps taken by the Government towards revising the method of wholesale internment, declaring: “We cannot expect to win a war against persecution by persecuting the persecuted.”
Hannen Swaffer, Daily Herald columnist, condemned wholesale internment of refugees, asking: “Have we shown equal vigilance in the case of higher-ups who for years boasted of their liking for Hitlerism?”
