A number of Jewish refugees in Switzerland have been selected for emigration to the Dominican Republic and are expected to sail from Greece on a Greek vessel shortly, it was learned here today. The refugees were selected by Morris C. Troper, European chairman of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
Meanwhile, the sailing of 500 young German refugees now in England for the Sosua colony in the Dominican Republic has been delayed pending the availability of a convoy.
Sir Herbert Emerson, director of the Intergovernmental Refugee Committee, has taken personal charge of the projected sailing of Jewish refugees for the Dominican Republic.
Paul van Zeeland, president of the Coordinating Foundation for Refugees, will leave Lisbon by clipper for the United States this week to aid in the solution of refugee problems, Government officials announced here. He will attend a meeting of the President’s Advisory Committee on Refugees in New York.
