Jewish Shops in Strasbourg Seized

French Jewish shops at Strasbourg have been taken over by the German police, who have posted notices to this effect in the windows, a Times dispatch from the Nazi-occupied Alsatian city reported today.

The report said Strasbourg synagogues had not been damaged by the war, but one at Sarreguemines had been burned.

According to estimates from other sources there were about 10,000 Jews among Strasbourg’s 200,000 population prior to the outbreak of hostilities. The Times dis patch said about 20,000 residents have returned to the city, whose civilian population was evacuated when war started.
