World Congress Plans ‘constructive Relief’ for Jewish Refugees

Summarizing the relief activities it is now carrying on the World Jewish Congress said in a statement here today that “plans of a more constructive nature are being formulated for those countries where the greatest number of Jewish refugees are congregated.” The Congress described its activities as follows:

“Palestine: Polish refugees are being cared for through the medium of a special committee working closely with the national self-governmental institutions in this country and with the organizations affiliated with the Jewish Agency.

“Roumania: Until recently a special representative of the Congress was active in supervising relief work for Jewish refugees from Poland.

“Southern France: Two members of the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress are conducting relief work for the tens of thousands of refugees concentrated in Toulouse and in many other centers, one of the most important of these in Luncheon. One of the former employees of the World Jewish Congress, traveling from camp to camp, relays to executives of the World Jewish Congress suggestions as to methods for carrying on relief work.

“Portugal: One of the leading personalities in the native Jewish population is active as a representative of the World Jewish Congress.

“German-occupied territories of Poland: The leading Jewish organizations are receiving the financial help of the World Jewish Congress to enable them to carry on their relief activities.

“Lithuania: Financial help granted to many of the refugees enabled them to proceed from there to Palestine.”
