As 18-year-old Grown Prince Michael became King, Iron Guard gangs broke windows of Jewish stores in the capital including the Galleries Lafayette. Jewish shopkeepers who failed to hang pictures of Michael in their windows were beaten.
Shouts of “Down with the Jews!” were mingled with cheers for Michael as crowds of young Iron Guardists paraded through the streets.
