The State and Justice Departments are taking “under consideration” the case of the Portuguese steamship Quanza, arriving in Norfolk, Va., harbor today with 83 Jewish refugees who were turned away on their arrival at Veracruz, Mexico, the State Department said. It is reported that some of the passengers on the ship are ill.

The refugees had received Mexican visas in Europe, but were denied permission to land at Veracruz. After the ship had been in port six days it was ordered to leave last Thursday by President lazaro Cardenas. It was said in Mexico City the action was taken as a precaution against possible fifth columnists.
