Full support of the British Labor Party for Socialist Zionism was pledged today by J.H. Middleton, party secretary, addressing a Poale Zion luncheon at the Trade Union Club in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Palestine Histadruth.
“When the call for aid comes, as far as the British labor movement is concerned it will not come in vain,” declared Middleton, expressing confidence that the Jewish and Arab peoples could be reconciled.
Berl Locker, Zionist labor leader, urged creation of a situation “in which the Jews will be able to live in their land, rooted in the soil, on a basis of social equality with any other nation in the world.” Camilla Suysmans greeted the Histadruth on behalf of his 20,000 Belgian comrades in England and predicted the sudden collapse of Nazism.
Messages were received from Dr. Chaim Weizmann, George Gibson, president of the Trade Union Congress; James Walker, president of the Labor Party executive committee, and Tom Williams, Member of Parliament. Dr. S. Levenberg, presiding, paid tribute to the late Vice-Mayor Dov Hos of Tel Aviv.
