Refugees who have entered the United States illegally would be able to have their entry made permanent and legal if they volunteered for military service, under the terms of a bill introduced in the House today by Rep. Jerry Voorhis (Dem., Calif.).
The bill would apply to aliens who are natives of countries which have been invaded and where, as a result of that invasion, they would be subject to prosecution for “political, racial or religious beliefs.” Registration with the U.S. Immigration Service for permanent residence would be contingent also upon proof of good moral character and a declaration of intention to become a citizen.
