Allied Forces Move on Damascus and Beirut: Surrender Seen Near

The Allied forces, advancing rapidly into Syria and Lebanon, today were reported to be within striking distance of Damascus and Beirut.

A communique issued by the British Middle East command here said: “The penetration of the Allied forces is proceeding satisfactorily and the general impression is that the Arab reaction to the arrival of our forces is favorable.

An officer of the Lebanese police who arrived in Palestine was quoted in Jerusalem reports as saying that if French officers and men continued to join the Allied forces at the rate maintained for the last two days, French High Commissioner Henri Dentz would be forced to surrender.
