The labor shortage in Germany is so acute now that German consulates in Switzerland were reported by Reynolds News today to be inviting German Jews to return to the Reich for jobs in various war industries.
Similar invitations, it was recalled here, were said to have been extended by the German consulates in Switzerland and other countries prior to outbreak of the war. The invitations at that time were accompanied by assurances that the Jews who returned would not be subjected to the discriminations and inconveniences imposed on co-religionists in Germany.
It has not been recorded that any of these invitations have been accepted.
