Heartfelt thanks for the aid that American Jewry extended to Greece in its fight against Italian and Nazi aggression, was expressed today by the Greek general – whose name must remain unmentioned – recently appointed by King George of Greece to organize a Free Creek force in the Middle East.
Declaring that Greek leaders felt that the Jewish nation will find its place among free nations after a victory over Fascism, the General declared: “I have no words to praise Jewish achievements and progress observed in Palestine. I am sure that Jewish efforts to further the interests of the Holy Land will benefit all the Eastern nations including Greece.
The Greek General stressing the fact that friendly relations have always existed between the Greeks and Jews added that the “fate of the Jews is sevenfold times nearer to us now that we are fighting for freedom and victory.”
In expressing his thanks to American Jewry, the Greek military leader said that, “We think American Jewry should actively participate with the Allies in this struggle and thus perform their duty as Jews and as world citizens.”
