The ill-fated steamer Patria on which 268 Jewish refugees lost their lives last November 25 when it exploded off the shores of Haifa, is being dismantled for scrap metal. Scrapping operations began after it was established that the steamer could not be reconditioned. The Patria carried 1,771 passengers when it exploded. Of the 268 passengers missing, 200 bodies were recovered.

A group of 52 Jewish refugees from Poland reached Palestine today after many weeks of wandering through Lithuania, Soviet Russia, Japan, India, South Africa and Egypt. They include 27 Chalutzim and a number of Polish Zionist officials.
