A government decree prohibiting the publication in Brazil of any foreign language paper, including Yiddish, went into effect today. The law was originally to have been effective on July 31 but its execution was delayed for a month. The foreign language press was given the alternative of suspending publication or appearing in Portuguese. The three Yiddish papers in Brazil have announced that they would appear in Portuguese.
