What is described as “organized plunder of Jews” is now reported taking place in Morocco under the pretext of enforcing the Vichy anti-Jewish laws.
Reports reaching here today from Morocco state that members of the German Commission in Morocco, as well as high officers of the German army, are touring the country for the purpose of “appraising” Jewish property including furniture, linen and silverware. Jewish families are being evicted with twenty-four hours notice, while families of Jews who were in the civil service for decades are rendered destitute.
The Arabs in Morocco resent the anti-Jewish decrees and are especially disgusted with the fact that the anti-Jewish measures are being carried out by Germans who have actually invaded the country. The Vichy authorities in Morocco are compelled to take orders from Gestapo agents who are to be found everywhere in the Moroccan Protectorate, carrying out mass arrests and generally showing themselves to be the actual masters of the country.
