The question of the creation of a Jewish Army, for which the Jewish Agency has been pressing the British Government, will soon enter a more decisive stage, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was informed today by competent quarters here.
A delegation of important members of the British Parliament will shortly visit Anthony Eden, the British Foreign Secretary, to discuss with him the Jewish demand for the establishment of their own army. The same parliamentarians may also make a direct personal appeal to Prime Minister Churchill.
The intensified activities with regard to the Jewish army project follow a meeting of parliamentarians at which Dr. Weizmann made a stirring appeal asking that the Jewish people be allowed to take their place in the front line against Hitlerism to which they are entitled. Informed circles today stated that the opinion is gaining ground that the Jewish National Home can play an important part within the consolidation plans which Britain has for the Near East. This feeling prevails despite the fact that some of the leading British officials in Cairo have different views on the matter.
