Funeral services were held here today for Dr. Julius Stern who was a member of the Board of the Berlin Jewish Community for thirty years and its president for ten. Dr. Stern died yesterday in the Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, after an illness of several months. He was born 88 years ago in Silesia.
One of the outstanding men in the medical profession in Germany, Dr. Stern was compelled to leave the Reich in 1938. He had been a member of the Board of the Jewish Colonizaiton Association for many years and one of the leading figures in the Hias-JCA Emigration Association. While holding office as leader of the Jewish Community in Berlin, he received the order of the Red Eagle from Kaizer William II on the occasion of the opening of the Great Synagogue on Fasanenstrasse in Berlin which the Nazis have now closed. Until the last moment he was permitted to remain in Germany, he was active in aiding the Jews there in every way he could.
