Weizmann, Jewish Agency. Brodetsky Mourn Passing, of Rutenberg

Dr. Chaim Weizmann today mourned the death of Pinches Rutenberg as a “terrible loss to the Yishuv,” in a statement issued here. Other tributes came from the London office of the Jewish Agency and from Prof. Selig Brodetsky, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

“I am overwhelmed with grief,” declared Dr. Weizmann, “at Pinchas Rutenberg’s untimely death and mourn the loss of an old friend. It is a terrible loss to the Yishuv where he became the most powerful figure. His conspicuous achievement will be a permanent monument to our national home to which he contributed light and leadership by giving a noble example of constructive idealism.”

The Agency’s message, which was cabled to its executive in Jerusalem, declared: “We are greatly shocked to hear of the premature death of Pinches Rutenberg, which is a terrific, loss to the Yishuv, of which he was a tower of strength. He was one of the foremost builders of our national home to which he gave guidance and light. His achievements remain a lasting memorial to him in Erets Israel.” A similar message was sent to Jerusalem by Prof. Brodetsky. A memorial meeting, in honor of Rutenberg has been called for Thursday. It will be held under the auspices of the Jewish Agency.
