The Jewish Community Council in the Warsaw ghetto has been ordered by the Nazi authorities to immediately erect a crematorium for disposing of the growing number of Jewish dead, it was learned in Polish Government circles here today.
The Jewish cemetery in the ghetto will be closed shortly, the Nazi authorities informed the Council. The closing of the cemetery and the order for the establishment of a crematorium is necessitated by the increase in deaths in the Warsaw ghetto, the Nazi authorities are reported to have told the leaders of the Jewish Community Council.
Polish Government circles today heard from Moscow that the Soviet authorities have returned to the Polish embassy the passport of Henryk Ehrlich, leader of the Jewish Socialist Bund party in Poland who is under arrest in Russia. In delivering Ehrlich’s passport to the Polish authorities, the Soviet Government stated that the arrested Jewish socialist leader is considered a Soviet citizen. Ehrlich, who was born in the Polish city of Lublin, has been living in Poland all his life. The Polish Government in London is not inclined to accept the view of the Soviet authorities and intends to continue its representations for the release of the Jewish labor leader.
