Soviet-jewish Youth Receives Posthumous Award of “hero of the Soviet Union”

Lido Chaikin, a Soviet-Jewish youth has received the posthumous award of “Hero of the Soviet Union” it was reported today over the Moscow radio.

Chaikin was the leader of a partisan group which was driven from the Penovsk district by the Germans. Taking their broadcasting equipment with them the band operated their own wireless station for a few days. Then Chaikin spread the Soviet communiques by word of mouth in the Nazi-held area. Captured by the Gestapo he was tortured to death, but died with the cry “Long Live the USSR” on his lips.
