Governor Lehman yesterday announced his approval of a bill designed to tighten the law regarding religious marriages. It requires that to solemnize a marriage a clergyman must be duly ordained and affiliated with a religion which is listed in the last Federal census of religious bodies, and that marriages may be solemnized by any person serving as a clergyman, minister or as a spiritual leader under authorization of an appropriate appointing agency of any such religion.
