The accomplishments of the Jewish settlement of Sosua were lauded here today by Avra M. Warren, newly-appointed United States Minister to the Dominican Republic, at a luncheon tendered to him by Mr. James N. Rosenberg, chairman of the Dominican Republic Settlement Association, which is conducting the work in Sosua.
“The momentous and far-reaching problems of readjustment and of resettlement after the war is over and the victory won, will have the benefit of the lessons learned and the experiences gained through Sosua,” Mr. Warren said. “Who is there here who can deny the world-wide beneficent influence that may spread from the planning, and the investment, and the time, and the people who have originated and who participate in the great work of the Sosua “test-tube” of the Dominican Republic Settlement Association?”
James N. Rosenberg, in addressing the luncheon, stated that the work in Sosua is only beginning. “We will never forget the noble offer of asylum made by President Trujillo on behalf of the Dominican Republic; his magnificent gift of Sosua; his steadfast cooperation; the care with which settlers have been selected to assure that no hostile subversive elements could get to Sosua,” he declared. Other speakers included James G. McDonald, Jesus Maria Troncoso, Dominican Minister to the United States, George Warren, Joseph C. Hyman, Professor Joseph P. Chamberlain, Paul Baerwald, William Rosenwald, Mrs. Leon Falk, Jr. and Father Komora.
