Problems of increased war production in Palestine were discussed here today by the representatives of the Palestine government and the Association of Jewish Industrialists, while the Official Gazette published an order proclaiming the police force of the country a military force for the duration of the war.
The Inspector General of the Palestine police force was automatically given the military rank of Brigadier General. Other police officials are to receive ranks equal to their police titles, Under the order in the Official Gazette, the entire Palestine police force will be employed for military duties in the defense of Palestine. Exception is made only for the section composed of special constables.
The Palestine Jewish units of the British forces engaged on the Libyan front have started the publication of their own Hebrew paper “Ha’ hayal Haivri” (The Jewish Soldier). Davar, Jewish laborite organ, today carries an editorial criticizing the “Hebrew zealots” who caused disturbances in Tel Aviv this week when they protested against the use of languages other than Hebrew at public meetings. “Exaggerated ardor will not result in any solution of the problem,” the paper writes. It also criticizes the organizers of foreign-language meetings for “disregarding the feelings of the Yishuv.”
