The President of Mexico, Manuel Avila Camacho, in a personal letter to the Association of German-speaking Jews which represents the Jewish refugees from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia, expressed the thanks of the Mexican Republic for the refugees’ offer of their “physical and moral efforts for the inexorable fight against Nazi-Fascism until its total annihilation.”

The President’s letter read: “In reply to the message you addressed to me on May 16 on the occasion of the assault on the Mexican ship “Potrero del Llano,” in which Mexican seamen lost their lives, I thank this Association in the name of the Government of the Republic for their fraternal feeling which inspires your conceptions as well as your support to the policy which this Administration has come to develop in international affairs. Please accept my affectionate greetings.”
