Rabbi Maurice Bloom Named Chaplain at West Point; Will Give Guidance to 100 Jewish Cadets

Rabbi Maurice J. Bloom of Newburgh, N.Y., has been named Jewish Chaplain of the United States Military Academy by the National Jewish Welfare Board, succeeding Lt. Col. Benjamin A. Tintner, who has been called into active service, it was announced here today by the Academy authorities. He will minister to the spiritual needs of about 100 cadets.

Rabbi Bloom is a graduate of the Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. He has been spiritual leader of Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh since his ordination in June, 1927. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and attended Hebrew Union College, Columbia University, the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the American School for Oriental Research. He is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.
