Indicating that important negotiations are now being conducted between leaders of the Jewish Agency and the American and British Governments with regard to the Jewish position in Palestine, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, addressing a meeting at the Hotel Astor here last night, called upon the Jews of America to be ready for practical work.

Dr. Weizmann deplored the fact that the British Government, although it promised the establishment of a Jewish military formation in Palestine eighteen months ago, has not as yet kept its promise. He expressed the hope that the danger to Palestine will pass, but added that it is the duty of the Jews in America to help the Jews of Palestine to defend themselves regardless of whether Britain permits the establishment of a Jewish fighting force under British command.

Emanuel Neumann and Dr. Nahum Goldman addressing the meeting, which was arranged by the American Emergency Committee for Zionist Affairs, reported on the campaign which the American Zionist leadership is conducting in the United States to secure British permission for the formation of a Jewish military unit in Palestine as well as on the American Zionist’s work for post-war Palestine. The meeting, attended by about 3,000 persons, was presided over by Judge Louis E. Levinthal, president of the Zionist Organization of America.
