Typhus is reported here to be raging among Jews in Bulgaria as a result of the mass-evacuation of the Jewish population from the large Bulgarian cities to isolated villages.
The Bulgarian authorities, fearing the spread of the epidemic to the cities, has ordered the entire population in Sofia and in other large towns to undergo special inoculation. They have also been instructed to drink only boiled water and to wash fruit and vegetables before eating them.
Information reaching here from the Balkan countries states that the Jews expelled from the large Bulgarian cities are living in the villages under the most unsanitary conditions, without any medical aid.
