The Palestine Government’s Statistical Bulletin, which was issued today, reveals that 200 new companies engaged in war production have been established in Palestine since the beginning of January this year. They are part of the estimated 2,000 Palestine enterprises filling orders for the British armed forces. Included among the 200 new firms are three ship-building yards.
Reporting on labor-industry relations in the same period, the official government bulletin reported that 2,038 workers were on strike during the first three months of this year, involving the loss of 16,400 working days; while in the second three months this figure rose to 41,000 working days lost. This last figure includes the strike of the teachers in the Jewish schools and the diamond workers. The teachers’ strike was settled several weeks ago. The diamond workers’ conflict with the manufacturers was settled in Tel Aviv yesterday and the workers were back at their benches today. Mainly involved in the strike were Jewish workers from Antwerp.
During the first six months of the year deposits in Palestine banks rose to nearly $100,000,000, the Statistical Bulletin discloses.
