The Paris press reaching here today reports that the 4,000 Jews recently deported from unoccupied France have been sent to Polish Silesia to work in coal mines. A transport with an additional 4,000 Jews from occupied France was similarly sent to the same section, the Nazi-controlled Paris press disclosed.
Three Jews and ten Frenchmen were arrested yesterday in Lyons, unoccupied France, “following incidents, resulting from certain suspect political activities in recent days,” it was reported over the Vichy radio last night. The London radio reported that dismissals of French policemen in Paris continue as a result of the reluctance of French police officers to comply with the Gestapo order for rounding up Jews.
