Four Jews were among those decorated today for gallantry in action, at impressive ceremonies at Government House here. The awards were made by Governor-General Sir Patrick Duncan, representing the King. Prime Minister Jan Smuts attended the reception which followed the presentation ceremonies. Those decorated were: Captain Heyman Samson, who was raised to the rank of Lieut. Colonel; Lionel Melzer and Lieut. Frank Solomon, who received the Military Cross; and Second Lieut. Sydney Bernstein who was given the Distinguished Flying Medal.
