Palestine Jews Called on to Increase Enlistment in British Forces

Stressing that ”the blood of our brethren in Europe calls for revenge and the remnants of the Jewish communities await rescue,” a joint proclamation issued by the Jewish Agency for Palestine and the Jewish National Council today appealed for wider enlistment of Jews in the British armed forces, to include youths of 16 to 19, unmarried men between 32 and 35, and women between the ages of 21 and 29.

Urging that the Jewish infantry battalions in the recently formed Palestine Regiment be filled immediately, the proclamation disclosed that almost 30,000 Jews are already in the armed forces, including 19,000 on active military service, 3,000 assigned to special military duties, 800 in the active Home Guard and several thousand in the various home and civil defense units. It was announced at the same time that several Jewish units have already been transferred to the Jewish battalions.
