Swedes Consider Deportation of Norwegian Jews Was Most Deplorable Event of 1942

The deportation of the Jews from Norway in November is the political occurrence of 1942 which will be the longest remembered by the Swedish people, it was disclosed here today, as the result of a public opinion poll conducted by the Stockholm office of the Gallup Institute among a cross-section of the Swedish population.

The Institute asked: “Which foreign political occurrence do you think will be remembered the longest from 1942?” Twenty-five percent of all the voters chose the Jewish deportation. Next came the battle for Stalingrad with 13 percent and the American invasion of North Africa with nine percent. The results were broadcast over the Stockholm radio.
