The election of Norris D. Waldman to the newly-created post of executive vice-president of the American Jewish Committee has been announced here.
The duties of the new position, as listed in the amendment to the Committee by-laws under which it was created, are: “general supervision and counsel under the direction of the President and the Administrative Committee.” Mr. Waldman will also be a member of all standing committees and special committees except the nominating committee.
The new by-law was adopted at the Committee’s annual meeting on Sunday. At that meeting, Maurice Wertheim, retiring president of the organization, paid tribute to Mr. Waldman, describing him as “the rock of the American Jewish Committee, whom I am happy and proud to call my friend.” Mr. Waldman has served with the American Jewish Committee since 1928.
