A renewed pledge of freedom of worship in post-war Greece was contained in a statement today by George Haniotis, Director of the Greek Office of Information, hailing the contribution of $6,000 by Jews of Greek descent to the Greek War Relief Association.
“I am sure,” Haniotis said, “that the people of Greece will greatly appreciate the donation of $6,000 by the Jews of Greek origin in New York to the Greek War Relief. One of the aims of this war is freedom of worship, and the gesture of the Jews of Greek origin in New York, together with their statement that Greece is a country where religious tolerance has always existed, is also an appreciation on the part of the Jews of the fight of Greece, which, true to these high human ideals, accepted tremendous sacrifices in order to see them prevail in the world, This war is also their war, and they have proved it, fighting in the ranks of the Greek army during the Axis invasion.”
