The British Government today received a memorandum from the Jewish National Council of Palestine asking it to intervene to secure the release of all Jews still interned in North Africa. The memorandum was transmitted through the Palestine Government.
The London Times correspondent in Algiers today reports that the anti-Jewish laws in North Africa are being relaxed very slowly. Other correspondents report from Algiers that Gen. Jean Bergeret, Secretary General of the new administration, has declared that “nobody who was imprisoned because he was a Jew, Freemason or Do Gaullist is among the remaining 5,800 political prisoners in North Africa.”
