The Nazi authorities in Tunisia have imposed a fine totalling approximately $400,000, on the Jewish population of the sections still under their control, it is indicated in a dispatch from Algeria appearing in the Evening Standard tonight.
The Standard correspondent reports that when British troops entered the town of Medenine in southern Tunisia, they found posted a proclamation issued by German commander-in-chief Von Arnim imposing a twenty-million franc fine on Tunisian Jews “to provide a bombing distress fund.”
