Not a single Jew of the 30,000 who lived in the city of Kowel, Wolhynia, when the Nazis occupied the city, remains there, it was reported here today by Dr. Ignacy Schwartzbart, Jewish member of the Polish National Council, on the basis of information reaching him from Poland through neutral countries.
Dr. Schwartzbart also received information from Palestine that a conference opened there today in which representatives of twenty various committees engaged in conducting relief activities for Jews in Nazi-held territories participated. The purpose of the conference is to unite these groups into one body and coordinate the Jewish relief and rescue work in Palestine under one administration.
