Former Governor Herbert H. Lehman, director of the Office of Foreign Relief and Rehabilitation, was announced last night at a dinner meeting at the Biltmore as the recipient of the gold medal for humanitarian service offered annually by Pi Lambda Phi, collegiate fraternity.

Because official business kept Mr. Lehman in Washington, Mrs. Lehman represented him at the dinner and accepted the award from Joseph C. Hyman, executive vice-president of the Joint Distribution Committee and former head of the fraternity, Recalling that the award is made annually “to that individual who has gained worldwide recognition as an exponent of true humanitarianism and brotherhood,” Mr. Hyman noted that the former Governor had been very active in assisting the needy in his private capacity as well as his public capacity. He cited especially Mr. Lehman’s work with the Joint Distribution Committee.
