A well-known Polish-Jewish civil engineer, who built many of the largest bridges in Poland and whose textbooks were used in technical institutes throughout the country, has been given a cash award for his contributions to the Soviet war effort, it is reported today.
The engineer, F. Frantsos, fled from Nazi-occupied Poland in 1939 to Russia. Here he has built new bridges, repaired old ones and aided in the construction of highways from the industrial centers in the Urals to the fighting fronts in the West. Last week, Frantsos completed, far ahead of time, an important link in this system of military highways and was highly praised by government representatives who came to inspect the road.
