Lehman Calls on Eden in London; British Press Hails His Arrival

Herbert H. Lehman, U.S. Director of Foreign Relief and Rehabilitation, who arrived here last night, today began his survey of European relief problems by calling on Anthony Eden, British Foreign Secretary. Conferences with British government officials and experts on relief problems in Europe will follow. Mr. Lehman will also see representatives of the governments-in-exile.

The London press gave an enthusiastic reception to Mr. Lehman, emphasizing the vastness of his job and stating that the eyes of thirty million stricken people in Europe are directed towards him. The main purpose of Mr. Lehman’s present visit was said today to be assessing relief requirements in the countries which are expected to be liberated from the Axis.
