The furnishings were taken from the Synagogue through a clever ruse by several young Danes who posed as German police, and even succeeded in requisitioning several German trucks to remove the material.
Among the estimated 7,000 Jewish refugees in Sweden there are about 400 orphaned children, as well as prominent Orthodox scholars and intellectuals. The Swedish Relief Committee, it was learned, has appealed to the United Jewish Relief Appeal in London for funds to help care for the orphans and to open kosher communal kitchens.
