Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia announced yesterday that New York City will offer a reward of $500 for information leading to the conviction of any one committing or abetting vandalism against any synagogue, church or cemetery.

Discussing the general situation in the city, the Mayor declared that an “impartial survey” showed that racial antagonism was neither wide-spread nor organized, estimating that it was carried on by “a contemptible one percent.” The Mayor also appealed to private groups interested in stamping out intolerance to increase the reward of $500, which is the limit that he could offer under municipal regulations.
