German war criminals, including those responsible for the maltreatment of Jews and their deportation to death camps, should not be given asylum in Sweden, it was urged today by former Swedish Foreign Minister Osten B. Unden. The suggestion is made in an article which Mr. Unden, now chancellor of the University of Upsala, published in the Stockholm publication Norden Tidning.
The Stockholm newspaper Morgon Tidningen reports today that Nazi agents are flooding Sweden with anti-Jewish leaflets which are being distributed in restaurants and cafes in Stockholm and in public places all over the country. The paper urges the authorities to prohibit the distribution of the Nazi literature.
Another Stockholm newspaper, the Svenska Dagbladet, also draws attention to the growing Nazi anti-Jewish propaganda in Sweden. The Dagbladet emphasizes that “the Nazis have every reason to try to spread this propaganda, because they know that when they create anti-Semitism they create a potential fifth column.” The paper urges its readers to use “common sense” when hearing these slanders.
