A manifesto addressed “to the conscience of the free world,” emphasizing that “the United Nations have so far failed to implement measures of rescue” by which hundreds of thousands of Jews could have been saved from Nazi extermination, and lauding President Roosevelt’s establishment of the War Refugee Board, was issued here today by the National Conference of Orthodox Jewry for Palestine and Rescue, attended by more than 1,200 delegates.
The manifesto called upon the Governments of the United States and Britain “to erase the stain of the White Paper from the shield of the United Nations and keep open the doors of Palestine to the tormented and uprooted Jews of Europe.” It expressed the hope that a Jewish Commonwealth “will once again flourish in the land of Israel.”
Resolutions adopted by the conference endorse the American Jewish Conference and the American Zionist Emergency Council and request that the Jewish community “be rid of irresponsible, non-representative, mushroom-like ‘paper organizations,’ designed to be productive of public confusion and bound to inflict injury to the cause of Jewish Palestine.” One of the resolutions repudiates the American Council for Judaism which is opposed to political Zionism.
