Special units trained to bring immediate aid to Jews and other persecuted people in occupied Europe are now being formed in Sweden, from where they will proceed to various sections of the European continent on relief and rescue missions as soon as circumstances permit, it was learned here today.
A representative of the Swedish Red Cross, which is organizing these units, is now conducting important talks in London, it was revealed. These talks will result in assisting refugees wherever possible through neutral Sweden.
Heading the Swedish “rescue units” is Prince Carl, a brother of King Gustav. The Prince is personally engaged in preparing plans for both immediate and long-term relief programs aimed at facilitating Swedish effort to alleviate the sufferings of Jews and other people under the Nazis, it was indicated.
