Polish Jews Fight on Italian Front; Gestapo Hangs Last Jew in Danzig

Several thousand Polish Jews are now fighting in Italy in the ranks of the Polish Second Army, it was reported today in the Polish-Jewish Observer published here.

The report emphasized that for security reasons the exact number of Jewish troops cannot be disclosed. “But Jews can be found in all units, including the commandos and tank units, the paper stated. Many of the Polish Jews now fighting in Italy were fighting on Polish soil in 1939 when the Nazis invaded Poland, while others anticipated in the battle of Tabruk, the article pointed out.

The Polish newspaper Robotnik reports today that the Iast Jews in Danzig has been hanged by the Gestapo after having been permitted to Iive there since 1940 when all other Danzig Jews were deported. The Jew, a sculptor, was employed by the German military authorities. After he completed his work he was sent to the Stuthoff concentration camp and executed.
