Bela Imredi, the Hungarian anti-Semite who in 1939 resigned as Premier of Hungary when it was established that one of his maternal great grandparents was a Jew, was today proclaimed a full fledged “Aryan” by the German Federal Office for Racial Research.
A statement issued by this office and made public over the Budapest radio said that “as far as it can be ascertained nouns of Imredy’s ancestors were Jewish.”
The announcement contradicts Imredy’s own statement, made on the day of his resignation from the premiership. At that time he admitted that one of his ancestors was Jewish, adding, however that “everyone has the full right to be an anti-Semite even if he has 25 or 50 percent Jewish blood.”
