The military governor of the Rumanian city of Jassi, which is menaced by Russian troops, has been ordered to take a census of the city’s Jewish population, the Bucharest newspaper Universal reports. The paper estimates that there are between 30,000 and 50,000 Jews in Jassi, including many Jews who had been reported from Transnistria, which has been recaptured by the Red Army.
