Ecuador will admit Jewish refugees and has instructed its consuls abroad to issue visas to all “Jews of good character” who wish to come here, it was stated yesterday by Foreign Minister Camilo ponce in the course of an interview with Jacob Landau, managing director of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

Mr. Ponce said that he is making arrangements for the admission, as soon as possible, of 300 refugee children, and added that “Ecuador is utterly opposed to the racial doctrine and will do its part in the noble effort inaugurated by President Roosevelt to offer refuge to victims of the Nazis.”

Earlier, Mr. Landau was received by President Jose Maria Ibarra who assured him that Ecuador will be open to all those who have been persecuted by the Nazis. The president stressed that under present circumstances it was necessary to waive the usual immigration restrictions in favor of saving human lives.
